Welcome to the Saugeen Schutzhund Club of Ontario

As Ontario's first club to host a regional trial we are still one of the longest running
Schutzhund Clubs in the region ! Started in 1992 we strive to produce high level competition
dogs with members competing not only at club, regional and national levels but on the world
stage as well. We welcome all to come see and learn about this wonderful dog sport...............

What is Schutzhund ?
Schutzhund Training and Schutzhund Sport today.
Schutzhund training started out as strict and rigorous training of the German Shepherd Dogs
and has grown into an all dog breed sport. It was developed in Germany around 1900 as a way
to test the German Shepherd Dogs for their suitability in Schutzhund (German for protection
dog). Schutzhund training ends with a series of tests, Tracking, Obedience and Protection, to
evaluate the dog's capabilities. Only the German Shepherd Dogs that passed the final test
were allowed to be used for breeding the next generation of GSDs.
